I checked out The Nerd Show last night at the UP Comedy Club in Old Town. If you like Star Wars and video games, or if you like to laugh at people who do, then this is the show to see.

UP is this very cool little lounge-type spot with a full menu of Chicago-style food (read: fatty but soooo good — Lou Malnati’s Deep Dish Pizza, Vienna Beef and Eli’s Cheesecake). I had a veggie burger (delish) and a gluten-free Ginger Apple Cider, by Angry Orchard, which I got as an experiment but ended up becoming my new fav summer drink.

The lineup included host Pete Holmes, Brent Weinbach , Dan Telfer , Hari Kondabolu , Mike Lawrence, and Brian Posehn.

Pete Holmes immediately made some nerdy joke about the Voss water being a vial of elixer or something, but had me laughing out loud when he  described himself as a pastor-type. He’s right, he really does look like a pastor. And when Brent Weinbach asked the guys in the audience how they felt about having boners next to each other at the strip club, I almost died. Also memorable was Hari Kondabolu’s description of children as hetero couple’s evidence that they fuck. “Look at our little fuck.” Hilarious.
