When people ask me what band they should be listening to that they have likely not yet heard of the answer is Poliça. Of the five Lollapalooza artists I’ll be posting previews about, this unique and dreamy indie rock foursome out of Minneapolis is currently the least well-known. (At the time of this post, Poliça has been added to 844 fans’ line-ups compared to nearly 8,000 for a band such as The Temper Trap, for example.) There’s a growing list of reasons that amass why the knowledge of this band is bound to skyrocket – not least of which is Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon telling Rolling Stone that Poliça is “the best band [he] has ever heard.” Notable endorsements aside, it’s the band’s seductive and hypnotic music that is destined to win a bounty of new fans over.
The band’s debut album Give You The Ghost, released in February of 2012, was immediately followed with a whirlwind of eight critically acclaimed performances down in Austin for SXSW. Enchanting singer Channy Leaneagh manipulates her tender vocals with an auto-tuner that allows her to use her voice like a guitar. Her soothing voice summons you forth in the company of alluring bass-lines from Chris Bierden and dueling percussion from drummers (yes, two) Ben Ivascu and Drew Christopherson. Get acquainted with “Lay Your Cards Out” and “Wandering Star” – both shining examples of how Poliça can build honest soundscapes that register as both vulnerable and intriguing in the same bated breath.
Poliça will be playing Lollapalooza on Sunday, August 5, 2012.
Add Poliça to your custom Lollapalooza line-up.
Cheers,
