Straight up, I love Chicago DJ and producer duo The Hood Internet. Comprised of Steve Sleeve and Aaron Brink, these two gents bring creative ideas to the (turn) table that are just as fresh as the hip-hop and rock mash-ups that have won fans over left and right. Three specific reasons to show ‘em some love right here:
1. Tacos as Typography
Earlier this year The Hood Internet was part of Taco Bell’s “Feed The Beat” program, which thanked them for participating with $500 in “Taco Bell Bucks”. The fellas spent $35 of the gift certificates on meals over the course of the year. Then, on one crisp day in November they purchased 310 tacos using $465 worth of tacos in one single visit to Taco Bell store #15875. (Would hate to have been behind them in the drive-thru that day…) Little did these 25 dozen tacos know they would go down in album cover and graphic design history as real tacos that became rad typography. Check out the behind-the-scenes artwork process video for how this tasty idea came together. Nom.
2. Yo Quiero Free Musica
As of today, December 6 of 2011, their new self-titled compilation of remix and production work, The Hood Internet will be available as a FREE DOWNLOAD . It really doesn’t get much better than dope music that’s free. Unless it’s dope music that’s free that ALSO comes with free tacos.
3. New Year’s Freakin’ Eve, Mothatruckas
Not sure if you heard, but the hottest ticket in town for NYE will be The Hood Internet at the new and already beloved Lincoln Hall for just $25. This is where you want to be if you like the idea of dancing your face off into 2012. Um, $25 that will bring a guaranteed top-notch dance party – done. Get ‘em while you can. You can thank me on the dance floor.
Cheers,
